There is always grass that pushes itself through the cracks in the sidewalk

Steel, AR, Garden

There is always grass that pushes itself through the cracks in the sidewalk is a public artwork that features a large steel sculpture, a garden, and an embedded Web AR component. This work considers a future where human structures have entered a state of dormancy, no longer inhabited by humans. It looks at this idea not through an apocalyptic lens, but a hopeful one, presenting the bones of our built environment as habitat for new forms of life, and as substrate for the growth of new ideas.

This project was supported by the City of Albuquerque Arts and Culture. It was created in collaboration between Adrian Pijoan, Architecture Master's Students at The University of New Mexico, and CNM Ingenuity.
